Precision Imaging for Your Peace of Mind

Our Background

Ernest Cook Ultrasound Research and Education Institute, (ECUREI), the only one of its kind in Sub- Saharan Africa, is the leading center at tertiary level in the training of Ultrasound, Medical Imaging and other health-related courses.

It was the brainchild of Prof. Michael Kawooya, the current Deputy Principal, after undertaking a Masters’ Degree of Medicine in Radiology. Prior to that, in 1997, Prof. Henry Stuart Kasozi, the current Principal had obtained an Ultrasound Fellowship with Thomas Jefferson University Philadelphia USA at the time when both Ultrasound services and Training were non- existent in Uganda.

Collaboration with Prof. Barry Goldberg of Thomas Jefferson University, USA followed and resulted in the donation of an Ultrasound machine to train Trainers in Uganda. Two Fellowship scholarships for Trainers at the Jefferson Ultrasound Research and Education Institute (JUREI) were offered in 2001.

This cooperation later resulted in the establishment of a Centre of Excellence in Ultrasound Training in Uganda, Africa. Thus, ECUREI was born and housed in Mengo Hospital. In the same year, ECUREI began to offer Radiology Services to Mengo Hospital, one of the oldest hospitals in the country. This marked the beginning of the second arm of ECUREI service provision.

In 2014 under the leadership of prof. Micheal G Kawooya, the Kampala MRI center was formed with partnership from the Netherlands. All these have run successfully helping in the imaging diagnoses and until this year that the same team thought it wise to invest in an executive diagnosis imaging center which is mostly into men’s reproductive health (Prostate). The team is sure that this is just an addition to already existent arms of service and much more is still in their plans that will build the imaging block of not only Uganda but the entire world

Who we are:

ECUREI Diagnostic Imaging Centre has redefined the landscape of diagnostics, with particular significance in prostate health assessment.

Employing advanced technologies like MRI, CT, X-ray and ultrasound, medical professionals can now offer more precise and non-invasive prostate evaluations. These imaging modalities enable early detection of anomalies, accurate staging, and treatment planning.

The integration of artificial intelligence further enhances diagnostic accuracy, enabling swift and informed medical decisions. As technology continues to evolve, medical imaging is poised to provide even greater insights into prostate health, improving patient outcomes and quality of life.
